FAQs

We want to get married. What do we do first?

As a marriage celebrant I offer an obligation-free consultation for all prospective clients. This gives you a chance to meet me in person and talk through your ideas. I will also explain the legalities involved. If you decide to go ahead with me, I will ask you for a deposit of $150 to confirm your booking.

What does it cost?

There are no fixed prices; a “ballpark” figure for a wedding ranges from $500 to $1000. Funerals and memorial services cost about $500 and for other services the fee is negotiable. The important thing is to feel comfortable with me, and confident that I can create and deliver a ceremony that meets your needs.

What does the celebrant do?

I will guide you through the process of creating your ceremony, ensuring that it truly expresses your thoughts and feelings. After our first meeting I will prepare a draft for you which you can amend according to your needs. We will work on this together until you are completely satisfied. If you would like assistance with choosing readings, poetry or music I am happy to help. I will then deliver your ceremony with professionalism and warmth.

As a marriage celebrant registered with the Attorney General’s Department I am bound by the Code of Practice for Marriage Celebrants. This code ensures that I will maintain a high standard of service in my professional conduct and practice.

As a guide to my services, you can expect:

  • At least two face-to-face meetings to discuss your needs, complete legal paperwork and create your ceremony;
  • An on-site  rehearsal a few days prior to the ceremony;
  • Sound equipment for the ceremony so that everyone present can hear it clearly;
  • A wedding certificate;
  • A ceremony booklet;
  • Prompt submission of all legal paperwork with the relevant authorities.

I am also happy to incorporate special symbols or rituals that express your particular beliefs or spirituality.

We’re getting married in the country, do you travel?

I’m based in Thornbury, an inner suburb of Melbourne, and I am willing to travel. Once outside the metropolitan area, I will need to build travel costs into my fee. Contact me for a quote.

We’re getting married overseas, can you help us?

Australian law prevents me from marrying you in an overseas country. However, I can help you design a ceremony for your overseas marriage or offer you a commitment ceremony overseas, with or without a marriage ceremony in Australia.

Can you help us find a location for our wedding?

There are many beautiful locations for a wedding. I can help you select a venue that meets your needs and your budget.
